A number of Society members helped out during the Tuesday, November 18, 2003 meeting of the Calcasieu Community Health and Environmental Forum. Pictured below are a portion (not all) of the Environmental Science students, along with representatives from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. The ATSDR presented preliminary findings of their study of dioxin in Calcasieu Parish.

Dr. Harold Stevenson, director of the Violet H. Howell Institute for the Study of Industry-Community Relations, opened the Forum. The Howell Institute, located within the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at McNeese State University, sponsors several forums each year. Previous topics include the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Mosquitoes and the West Nile Virus, the Chicot Aquifer, Enhanced Air Monitoring, and Hazardous Material Emergencies.
